Biography

Born in Newark, New Jersey, and a resident of Toms River, New Jersey until the age of 10, Mike embarked on a journey that would shape his future. Relocating with his family to Dunedin, Florida, he completed his high school education, graduating in 1985. An enlistment in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout followed, with basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and subsequent stationing in Garlstedt, Germany.

During his two-year stint in Germany, Mike seized the opportunity to explore neighboring countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy. His military journey continued at Ft. Hood, Texas, and in August 1990, he was deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. During the first month in Kuwait, Mike demonstrated his leadership abilities when he became responsible for unloading ships carrying vehicles.

Mike would then go to join his unit and conduct extensive training until the start of Operation Desert Storm. Mike served as a gunner on an M3 Bradley fighting vehicle during Desert Storm, traversing over 100 miles into Iraq. The mission included navigating through battle-scarred territories and areas laden with land mines. Despite a cease-fire, Mike’s unit remained in Iraq until October 1991.

Upon honorable discharge in January 1992, Mike chose to establish roots in Texas. Joining the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer, he forged lasting friendships with fellow officers undergoing police academy training. Inspired by his interest in law enforcement and criminal justice, Mike attended the Central Texas College police academy.

Graduating, he pursued opportunities in central Texas, eventually securing a position with the Smithville Police Department in November 1993. Over the next 4 years and 8 months, Mike served as a patrol officer/corporal, gaining valuable experience in the dynamics of policing a small town. Building strong connections with Smithville’s residents, he continued his law enforcement journey with the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office in 1998.

Within the BCSO, Mike wore multiple hats—starting as a Patrol Deputy, advancing to roles like Investigator, S.W.A.T. operator, and Patrol Sergeant. Shifting to investigations and later the narcotics division, Mike demonstrated versatility in law enforcement. In 2006, he returned to the Smithville PD as the patrol lieutenant, ultimately rising to the position of Chief of Police in 2014. Mike held this role until his resignation in May 2020 when he transitioned into the private security sector.

In June 2023, Mike embraced a new chapter as a case manager with Texan Legal.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mike is a dedicated family man with four children—two daughters and two sons. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, hiking, kayaking, and football. Family time involves exploring State Parks, visiting relatives in Florida, and enjoying the beach.
